How it works
Selling your scrap car on ScrapBid takes minutes. Here's the full process, step by step.
- 1
Enter your reg plate
Type your vehicle registration. We auto-fill the make, model, year, colour, and MOT status via the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. No keeper details are accessed — DVLA doesn't provide those.
- 2
Add condition details and photos
Tell us if the car is a runner or non-runner, add the mileage and any damage notes, and upload up to 6 photos. Photos are compressed automatically. You'll see an indicative scrap value range based on vehicle type and condition.
- 3
Choose your auction window and go live
Pick a 30, 45, or 60 minute auction window (45 minutes is the default). Your listing goes live and licensed scrapyards in your coverage area are notified.
- 4
Watch live bids come in
Dealers place bids in real time. Watch the current high bid update live on your screen — no page refresh needed. You'll see the bid amount and the dealer's company name.
- 5
Accept the best bid
When you're happy with the highest bid, accept it. We capture your contact details (name, phone, email, address) at this point. The winning dealer is notified immediately.
- 6
Get paid and collected
The winning dealer contacts you to arrange collection. You're paid by bank transfer (cash payment for scrap metal is illegal under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013). A Certificate of Destruction is issued once the vehicle is collected.
